An antique apothecary jar with a reverse-painted glass label reading "Aloessoc." — an abbreviation for Aloes Socotrina, or Socotrine Aloes, a bitter purgative and laxative derived from the dried latex of aloe plants historically sourced from the island of Socotra. The label is rendered in black lettering on a gold ground with ruled border lines, applied to the interior surface of the glass. The jar is fitted with a ground glass disk stopper. Manufactured by Whitall Tatum Company, U.S.A.

The interior of the jar retains a heavy red residue. The stopper is present and intact.
