Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Antique board-mounted albumen photograph from the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, under the direction of F.V. Hayden, U.S. Geologist in Charge. Photographed by William Henry Jackson. The image, numbered 158, is captioned "Ancient Ruins in the Canon of the Mancos" and depicts Ancestral Pueblo stone ruins in Mancos Canyon with a bearded survey member standing at the base of the masonry wall.
The photograph is mounted on a large board with the printed header "Department of the Interior / U.S. Geological & Geographical Survey of the Territories / F.V. Hayden, U.S. Geologist, In Charge" above the image, with a ruled border surrounding the photograph.
The mount shows scattered foxing on both the front and verso, with soiling and minor staining. The photograph itself shows fading consistent with age. The display stand shown in the photographs is not included.
