Antique clear glass jar for Hovey’s Dental Polish, embossed “Hovey’s Dental Polish” on the side and retaining a partial original paper label reading “Ralph C. Hovey, Ph.G., Lynn, Mass.” Fitted with the original metal lid with an “H” trademark. The label’s printed words “Tooth Powder” were crossed out in pencil and replaced with the handwritten word “mucil,” likely shorthand for “mucilaginous,” suggesting later reuse of the container to hold dried herbal material. The contents appear to be plant-based, consisting of fibrous, flaky, and layered fragments resembling dried roots or bark, possibly herbs such as slippery elm or marshmallow root used in traditional remedies. Unable to open jar. Surface wear, paper loss, and oxidation to lid consistent with age and handling.

Dimensions: 1-3/4" L x 1-3/4" W x 4-3/4" H
