Antique wood engraving depicting a fire drill demonstration on Boston Common in 1851. The scene shows a large gathering of spectators in mid-19th century dress watching firefighters operating hand-pumped fire engines and wheeled equipment. A tall flagpole with the American flag dominates the center of the composition. Large trees frame the scene, and various fire companies with their equipment are arranged across the common while crowds of men, women, and children observe the proceedings.

Published in Gleason's Pictorial, Boston, Massachusetts. The print is matted and presented in a black painted wood frame. A pencil notation on the reverse backing reads "Fire Drill on Boston Common, 1851." The print shows age-related toning to the paper with some foxing visible on the mat.
