Lot 182 - Grouping of 11 Antique, Vintage, and Modern Ephemera Including St. Botolph Fancy Goods Store Trade Cards, Boston, Massachusetts, 1916 Whitney Easter Postcard, Jell-O Recipe Booklet, and Hingham, Massachusetts Fishing Postcard
Grouping of 11 pieces of antique, vintage, and modern ephemera. The lot includes a pair of antique chromolithograph trade cards for St. Botolph Fancy Goods Store, 480 Washington Street, Boston, Massachusetts, printed in green on red with figural scenes of children; the reverse of one explains the origin of the name "Boston" from St. Botolph. An antique embossed Easter postcard captioned "Easter Joy Be Yours" with cherubs and rabbits is marked "Whitney Made, Worcester Mass." on the verso and inscribed "Myron Thomas from Grandma Thomas, 1916." A vintage Valentine card with a red ribbon bow reads "Be My Valentine Fifty Fifty" on the front with a cupid illustration and opens to a comic interior captioned "Snap Out of It!" An antique lace-edged chromolithograph card depicts two children with a drum and tambourine.
Additional pieces include a vintage postcard invitation to the Boston Antiques Exposition at Mechanic's Bldg., April 3-7, from Hilda Wynn Antique Shoppe, Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, sponsored by the New England Antiques Assn. and directed by Milton Babcock, postmarked Boston, Massachusetts, April 2, 1951, and addressed to Mrs. Pond in Dorchester, Massachusetts; a vintage "The New Jell-O Book of Surprises" advertising recipe booklet for desserts and salads; a vintage lithograph advertising blotter for Gardner Bates Real Estate and Insurance, 10 School Street, Charlestown, Massachusetts, with a landscape vignette; an antique hand-tinted postcard captioned "Fishing scene at Hingham, Mass."; and a modern "Classic Pin-ups!" reproduction pin-up postcard numbered 213. The pieces show general age-related wear including toning, creasing, and edge wear. The display stand is not included.
