Lot 024 - Grouping of 22 Antique Cabinet Card Photographs Including Military Portraits, Clergy, Memorial Card, and Architectural Views, Photographed by Bayley & Murphy, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Others
Antique grouping of 22 cabinet card photographs comprising portraits, military subjects, architectural views, and a memorial card. The lot includes multiple cabinet cards photographed by Bayley & Murphy, 167 Hollis St., Halifax, Nova Scotia, depicting a man in military uniform seated with a woman, a military family portrait with a young child, and a portrait of a woman. Additional photographers represented include W. D. O'Donnell, Halifax, Nova Scotia; E. A. Bass, P.O. Block, Brockton, Massachusetts; and Goldman, Reading, Pennsylvania. The E. A. Bass card depicts a young man in clerical collar. Two architectural view cards on gold-bordered mounts show the interior of Castle Chillon and the chevet of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the latter printed "360. Chevet de Notre-Dame" and credited to E. Ladrey, Passage des Princes, Paris. A black and gold memorial card reads "In Loving Remembrance of George W. Williams, Died Nov. 24, 1914" with "Gone but not Forgotten" and a printed verse, copyrighted 1898 by H. F. Wendell, Leipsic, Ohio. The remaining cards include additional portraits of men and women by various unidentified studios.
The cards show general age-related wear including toning, soiling, edge wear, and some with scalloped or deckle-cut edges. Several cards have corner bumping and surface scuffs.
