Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

The lot includes a soft-cover copy of "Extracts from Manual for Army Cooks," dated July 1917, published by the Washington Government Printing Office; several issues of The Burlington Sentinel newspaper from Burlington, Vermont, dated from the 1850s, edited and published by John G. Saxe, Volume LII, Number 34, dated Thursday, August 19, 1852; two handwritten marbled-cover notebooks titled "Notes on Lectures & Miscellaneous Subjects" and "Nota Theologica — Notes on Sermons Read in Berlin" with entries referencing theological lectures by Prof. Beck and biblical commentary in both English and Greek; an antique Latin text, "In Librum Jobi Commentarius," by Johannes Piscatore; two miniature illustrated chapbooks published by Kiggins & Kellogg, 88 John Street, New York, from the First Series — No. 8, "The Little Sketch-Book; or Useful Objects Illustrated," and No. 9, "History of Domestic Animals"; two Perry Pictures Company mailing envelopes from Eugene Ashton Perry, Malden, Massachusetts, addressed to Adelpha Tebordo and Mrs. Adelpha Tebordo in Proctorsville, Vermont; a handwritten letter dated Montreal, October 18, 1865, addressed "My Dear Bill" and discussing the recipient's marriage; a Royal Coaches advertising pamphlet from Royal Wilhelm Co., Sturgis, Michigan, and Trailer Coaches, Inc., Delaware & Villa, with Geo. Condition varies throughout. The Burlington Sentinel newspapers show tears, creasing, and fragility. The handwritten notebooks show worn covers with spine separation and toning to pages. The Latin Commentarius has a heavily worn leather binding with significant loss to the spine and covers, and the title page is torn with losses. The Kiggins & Kellogg chapbooks show soiling and edge wear. The 1917 Army Cooks manual has a soiled and chipped cover with toning throughout. The Perry Pictures envelopes show age toning and creasing. The lot is offered as found with contents unchecked for completeness.
