Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 172 - "Manners, Customs, and Dress During the Middle Ages and During the Renaissance Period" Antique Illustrated Book by Paul Lacroix, with Chromolithograph Prints by F. Kellerhoven, Published by D. Appleton and Co., New York, 1874
"Manners, Customs, and Dress During the Middle Ages and During the Renaissance Period" by Paul Lacroix (Bibliophile Jacob), Curator of the Imperial Library of the Arsenal, Paris. Published by D. Appleton and Co., Broadway, New York, 1874. The volume is illustrated with 15 chromolithographic prints by F. Kellerhoven and upwards of 400 wood engravings. The front cover features a red, gold, and black decorative binding with medieval architectural and ornamental panel designs.
The spine covering is separating from the binding, with one piece split off and loose. An additional piece of the spine covering has come loose since the photographs were taken, but is included. The front board is detached or loosening from the text block. Foxing is present on the endpapers and title page. Interior pages and plates show toning but remain intact and legible.
