The book is bound in red velvet with ornate brass corner pieces, a brass clasp, and a brass spine label reading "Abreviado da Missa." The interior contains wood engraving illustrations depicting scenes of the Mass. A manuscript ownership inscription on the front pastedown is dated 1856.
The velvet covers show wear with areas of nap loss and fading. Pages exhibit foxing throughout. The front cover is detached.
