Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 117 - Pair of Antique 1/9th Plate Ambrotype Photographs of Two Young Women in a Double Thermoplastic Union Case with Angel in Flight Design
Pair of antique 1/9th plate ambrotype photographs housed together in a thermoplastic union case. The left image depicts a young girl wearing a white bonnet with long ties, a dark cape, and a patterned dress, seated with her hands clasped in her lap. The right image depicts a young woman with center-parted dark hair wearing a dark buttoned dress with a white collar, with lightly tinted cheeks. Both images are housed under brass mats with oval openings and preservers . The interior is lined in red velvet.
The thermoplastic union case features matching angel in flight designs on both the front and rear covers, surrounded by a beaded oval border with floral and scroll corner ornaments. The case does not close completely due to the thickness of the glass on the left ambrotype. The brass mats show light tarnishing.
