Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Pair of antique bound volumes of "St. Nicholas", the illustrated children’s periodical conducted by Mary Mapes Dodge. Each book is profusely illustrated, bound in crimson covers with gilt designs and lettering on the covers and spines. Subscribers could send in six issues to be bound into these hardback volumes for a small fee.
1892 Volume: Splitting along the seam at the title page, with several pages coming loose throughout. Blue marker inscription on the inside front cover. Wear and tear to the edges and corners of the covers and spine.
1893 Volume: Major splitting along the front endpaper seam after the title page, separating the first pages from the binding. Additional splitting along the back endpaper seam, missing the left page of the back endpaper and an apparent section of pages. The binding overhangs the text block, suggesting the volume once held more pages. Wear to edges and corners.
