Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 312 - "The Bat" Vintage Mystery Novel From The Play By Mary Roberts Rinehart And Avery Hopwood, Published By Triangle Books, New York, 1942, With Original Dust Jacket
A novelization of the popular stage play, this Triangle Books edition was published in October 1942. The turquoise cloth-bound hardcover features a decorative bat motif stamped in black on the front cover. Retains original dust jacket featuring bold typography and bat illustration in green gradated tones with cream and yellow accents. Jacket includes promotional text describing the famous detective story and lists other Triangle Books mystery titles on rear panel. The title page bears a handwritten Christmas inscription dated December 25, 1942, reading "Merry Xmas to mother from Jack." The book shows age-appropriate wear with toning to pages and moderate edge wear to the cloth binding. Splitting along seam at front endpapers. Dust jacket exhibits edge wear, chipping, and losses particularly at spine ends and corners, consistent with age.
