Lot 117 - Vintage Quincy Oil Company Scrapbook with Snapshot Photographs, Newspaper Clippings, and Ephemera Documenting Fred E. Bergfors and Company Operations Across Massachusetts, Circa 1928-1935
Vintage green cloth-bound scrapbook documenting the operations and public profile of the Quincy Oil Company of Quincy, Massachusetts, compiled circa 1928 through 1935. The cover is printed "Scrap Book" with "News Items" added in manuscript. The contents center on Fred E. Bergfors, president and treasurer of Quincy Oil Co., and include snapshot photographs of company tanker trucks, filling stations, gas pumps, billboard advertisements, the company's ocean terminal in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and Jenney truck loading stands. Handwritten annotations in green ink throughout identify specific trucks by number, locations, billboard poster designs, and facility details.
The scrapbook also contains newspaper clippings from the Quincy Evening News, Quincy Ledger, Boston Globe, and Boston Herald covering subjects including the Standard Oil and Vacuum Oil Company merger hearings, Socony pricing pressure on independent dealers, and Quincy Oil Company baseball scores. Industry trade publications are represented by pages from The Gasoline Retailer and Petroleum Age, the latter featuring a full-page illustrated profile of Bergfors dated October 1935. Ephemera includes a 1928 Second Prize Award of Merit certificate and ribbon from the Independent Oil Men of America First Advertising Exhibit Contest at the Stevens Hotel in Chicago, awarded to Quincy Oil Co., and an embossed invitation to a testimonial dinner for Bergfors at the Statler Hotel on May 22, 1935.
The spine shows wear with exposed material at the head and tail, and the pages show age toning. Some clippings are browned.
