Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 098 - "Animal World" Antique 1901 R.S.P.C.A. Royal Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Bound Annual Compendium, Red Cloth With Gold-Stamped Bird, Presentation Copy To Sarah Duncan, Liverpool Branch, April 1902
Antique 1901 bound annual compendium of "Animal World," the publication of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The red cloth cover is stamped in gold with the title "Animal World" flanking a central vignette of a bird perched on a flowering branch, framed by ruled borders and ornamental corner devices, with "1901" stamped at the upper left.
A pink printed presentation certificate is tipped inside, inscribed to Sarah Duncan from the R.S.P.C.A. Liverpool Branch, dated Liverpool, 4th April, 1902. The certificate reads that the book was presented for an essay on "Kindness to Animals," by Mrs. Chas. Petrie, The Lady Mayoress, on behalf of the Ladies' Committee, at the Town Hall, and is signed by Nessie Stewart-Brown, Hon. Secretary Ladies Committee.
The binding shows wear along the spine and edges, with fraying at the head and tail and along the fore-edge of the text block. The gold stamping on the front cover remains legible with moderate dulling. The covers show soiling and surface scuffs.
