Antique 1/6th plate ruby ambrotype photograph in a full intact leatherette union case, depicting a young woman with center-parted dark hair, seated and wearing a dark dress with a small white collar. Her hands rest crossed in her lap holding. The image is housed in a brass mat and preserver. The interior features a pink velvet pillow with an embossed scroll motif. The exterior of the case displays a molded thistle and floral design with a central cartouche, framed by gilt rope-twist edges. The clasp is present and intact.

The brass mat shows areas of tarnish and verdigris. The ambrotype plate shows minor spots and debris. The case exterior exhibits wear to the leatherette covering, with light scuffing and minor losses to the gilt edging at the corners. The stand visible in the photographs is not included.
