This is a 1/9th plate Ambrotype photograph depicting a young woman with center-parted dark hair wearing a white collared dress. Photographed by Wyman & Co., Boston. The photograph is housed in a thermoplastic union case patented by Littlefield, Parsons & Co., 1857. The case features a burgundy velvet interior with diamond-shaped decorative motif. The image is set behind an oval brass mat with decorative border and cover glass. The verso includes an advertising card for Wyman & Co. promoting 12.5 cent Ambrotypes. Case shows wear to edges and hinges consistent with age and handling. Photograph shows minor surface marks and age toning.
