Lot 050 - Antique Cased Maritime Sextant No. 12685 with Brass Arc, Manufactured by H. Hughes & Son Ltd., 59 Fenchurch Street, London, with National Physical Laboratory Class A Certificate of Examination Dated July 1920
Antique maritime sextant, serial number 12685, manufactured by H. Hughes & Son Ltd., 59 Fenchurch Street, London E.C. The sextant features a black-finished brass frame with brass arc, wooden handle, index and horizon mirrors, multiple shade filters, a vernier scale, and a drum micrometer adjustment. A small bone insert on the handle has come loose but is included. The instrument is housed in its fitted mahogany case with brass side handles, dovetailed corners, and keyhole escutcheon. A brass-framed National Physical Laboratory Certificate of Examination, Class A, is mounted inside the lid, dated July 1920 and signed by Director J.E. Petavel. The case lid has a brass plate inset on the top.
The sextant has not been evaluated for completeness or functionality and is offered as found. The case shows surface wear, scratches, and scuffing consistent with age and use.
