Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 034 - Antique French Diablerie Stereoview Card “Salle De Jeu Chez Satan” (“Gaming Room At Satan's House”), Voyage Through The Lower Regions Series, 19th Century Reprint
Antique French diablerie stereoview card from the “Voyage Through the Lower Regions” series. This example is a 19th-century reprint after earlier French diableries, which originally incorporated tissue-paper elements designed to be illuminated from behind; those translucent color components are not present on this reprint.
The scene depicts a macabre parlor interior where skeletons gather around tables engaged in eating, drinking, and games. The skeletal figures recline and gesture as if participating in a lively social gathering. The setting resembles a bourgeois salon, rendered grotesque through its inhabitants, reflecting the satirical and theatrical tone typical of diablerie imagery.
French title: “Salle de Jeu Chez Satan.”
English translation: “Gaming Room at Satan’s House.”
Standard stereographic card format. No publisher credit visible. Light wear and surface toning consistent with age and handling.
