Mid-19th-century German lithograph titled “Der Löwe kommt!” (“The Lion Is Coming!”) by Carl August Reinhardt, printed by Breitkopf & Härtel and published by Verlag Georg Wigand, Leipzig. The humorous and satirical scene depicts a chaotic crowd fleeing in panic over a rumored escaped lion, capturing the artist’s characteristic wit and social commentary. Produced during Leipzig’s flourishing publishing era of the 1850s–1860s, when the city was a major center for German printing, illustration, and cultural satire. The lithograph exhibits staining, scattered tears, and loss to the upper corner, with overall toning consistent with age. Presented in a later frame behind heavy glass for protection.
