Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 152 - Antique Large-Format Cabinet Card Portrait Of Woman With Elaborate Feathered Hairstyle Identified As “Auntie Bud Freeman,” Photographed By Frederick Gutekunst, Philadelphia, Circa 1900
Large-format antique cabinet card studio portrait identified on the verso as “Auntie Bud Freeman,” dating to approximately 1900. The sitter is shown in three-quarter profile wearing an elaborate dress with floral appliqués and ribbon details at the shoulders, paired with a dramatic, sculptural hairstyle adorned with prominent feathered elements—an expressive and fashion-forward example of turn-of-the-century studio portraiture.
Photographed by Frederick Gutekunst, one of the most important and celebrated American portrait photographers of the 19th century. Gutekunst was based in Philadelphia and is known for photographing prominent cultural, political, and social figures of the period. His studio imprint is visible along the lower mount, noting locations on Broad Street and Arch Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Presented on a jumbo-size cabinet card mount.
Condition includes light overall toning, minor surface spotting, and faint handling wear to the photograph, with edge and corner wear to the mount consistent with age. No major creases or losses observed. The lot is offered as found, unrestored, and presents very well for display, research, or inclusion in a collection of significant Victorian-era portrait photography.
