Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 025 - Antique Miniature Portrait Painting On Porcelain After Stieler's 1820 Portrait Of Ludwig Van Beethoven, In Boulle-Style Frame With Tortoiseshell Inlay And Brass Scrollwork,4-7/8" x 5-5/8"
Antique miniature portrait painting on porcelain, oval format, depicting Ludwig van Beethoven after Joseph Karl Stieler's well-known 1820 portrait. The subject is shown with tousled gray hair, white collar, and dark coat with a red scarf, holding a pen and manuscript. An illegible signature is present at middle right. The frame is a rectangular Boulle-style construction with pierced brass scrollwork over tortoiseshell inlay, fitted with a hanging loop at center top.
The reverse is backed with printed Polish-language text, and a partially legible inscription is present along the bottom edge. There is a small area of tortoiseshell inlay lift at the upper left corner. The brass surround of the oval aperture shows scattered oxidation and surface wear.
