Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 031 - Antique Philippine-American War Soldier's Log Book And Journal, 26th Infantry U.S.V., Enlisted Lawrence, Massachusetts, 1899-1900, With Battle Of Balantang Account
An antique handwritten log book and journal chronicling a soldier's enlistment and service in the Philippine-American War with the 26th Infantry United States Volunteers. The soldier enlisted on July 31, 1899 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and was mustered into United States service by Second Lieutenant Homer B. Grant, Co. H, 26th Infantry. He was stationed at Plattsburg Barracks, New York, where he drilled from August through September 1899, and participated in parades in Boston on September 5 and Providence on September 9.
The soldier departed the East Coast and arrived in San Francisco on September 25, 1899, then arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 2. He departed Honolulu on October 6 and arrived in Manila on October 24. Entries from October through December describe activities in the Philippine Islands including commissioned officers meetings, drilling, and guard duty. The journal includes an account of engagement at the Battle of Balantang and describes guarding a town following the battle before being relieved by a detachment from D Company on or around December 1, 1899. A later entry records the deaths of Thomas J. Welch and Timothy O'Hare from dysentery on March 7. Timothy O'Hare is documented as a member of I Company, 26th Infantry, in Philippine-American War casualty records (https://www.philamwar.com/timothyohare_i26th.html).
The journal pages are partially out of order, with different sections of the book used for different periods, and many pages left blank.
