Lot 154 - Antique Real-Photo Police Mugshot And Arrest Card For Chas. McCarthy, Alias Chas. H. McKay, Yeggman, Criminal Specialty Safe Blower, Robbed Tremont Maine Savings Bank, Hancock County Maine Jail, 1919, With Fingerprints And Newspaper Clipping
This is a police arrest card featuring a mounted frontal photograph of Chas. McCarthy along with a full set of 10 fingerprint impressions on the front of the card. McCarthy is identified as a "Yegg" with criminal specialty listed as safe blower. He is listed as age 50, born 1919, with slate eyes, medium dark complexion, black hair, weight of 140 pounds, and height of 5 feet 4 1/2 inches in shoes. The reverse bears printed headings for the Hancock County Maine Jail, file number 520 Maine. Alias is listed as Chas. H. McKay, nationality as Ireland, and occupation as laborer. The crime is recorded as robbed Tremont Maine Savings Bank. McCarthy was arrested by Rodney W. Smith on August 23, 1919, at Sedgwick, Maine, and processed by Marshal L.P. Tremblay at Ellsworth, Maine, on August 27, 1919. Probable cause was found and bail set at $1,500. Marks, scars, and moles include a scar on the back of the left thumb shaped as the letter "Y," a scar in the palm between the index and middle fingers, a blunt scar of 1 1/2 inches about the tip of the right ear, and a scar on the right breast of 1 1/2 inches. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the lower portion of the reverse, headlined "Alleged Yeggmen Held at Ellsworth," describing the arrest and the robbery of the Tremont Savings Bank and a store at McKinley. Photograph and card show age toning, edge wear, and surface marks consistent with age and handling.
