Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

This is a police arrest card featuring a mounted photograph depicting George Frank Carouthers in profile and frontal views. The front of the card records Bertillon measurements taken at Toledo, Ohio, on August 31, 1908, by R.F. McKy. Carouthers is identified as a "Yegg" and listed as age 27, born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with blue eyes, dark chestnut hair, fair complexion, weight of 154 pounds, and medium slender build. Red ink annotations reference "Vol. 2 P. 175" and "History 19228." The reverse bears printed headings for the Bureau of Identification, Department of Police - Detective Service, negative number 751. Aliases are listed as Geo. Fenney, Cruthers, Geo. Stewart, and Henry Clay, with residence in Louisville, Kentucky, occupation as machinist, and descent as Irish. Carouthers was arrested on August 30, 1908, on suspicion by Officer Carroll, held for grand jury on $1,000 bail before Judge Austin Jr. on September 8, 1908. The charge was changed to having burglar tools in his possession, indicted October 5, 1908. Previous criminal record is noted in Columbus and Springfield, Ohio. Marks and scars include a tattoo on the left arm and a right arm previously broken at the elbow. Additional notations record sentencing on October 23, 1908, to two years in the Ohio Penitentiary, and a subsequent arrest on April 14, 1911, on suspicion, turned over to U.S. Marshal. Photograph and card show age toning, edge wear, and surface marks consistent with age and handling.
