Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 162 - Antique Real-Photo Police Mugshot and Arrest Card for Harold Sloan, Pickpocket and Con Man, Multiple Aliases, San Francisco, California Police Department, 1914
This is a San Francisco, California Police Department arrest card featuring a mounted photograph depicting Harold Sloan in profile and frontal views, with Sloan wearing a bowler hat in the frontal photograph. The card includes Bertillon measurements taken at San Francisco, California, dated January 1, 1914. Sloan's criminal specialty is listed as "P.P. and Con." (pickpocket and confidence man). He is listed as age 45, born in New York City, with dark brown hair, florid complexion, and medium stout build.
The reverse lists multiple aliases including Harry Martin, Harry Sinclair, Arthur Webb, Clark, Harry Hill, and Harry Lincoln. Criminal history notes reference a Philadelphia letter in February 1908 under the name Harry Martin and a want from Quincy, Massachusetts. A detailed typed entry dated Portland, Oregon, June 5, 1914, describes arrests in multiple cities under various aliases on charges of pickpocketing and confidence crimes. A handwritten note records an additional arrest on April 26, 1915, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, by officers Sampson and Mulligan. File dates span February 1908, June 1914, and July 1914. Fingerprint boxes on both front and reverse are empty.
The card shows toning and light soiling consistent with age.
