Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 037 - Antique U.S. Army World War I "Our Country's Defenders" Service Medal with Eagle and Enameled Shield, Manufactured by M.H. Stratton, Chattanooga, Tennessee
Antique U.S. Army World War I service medal marked "Our Country's Defenders." The front features a pin-back bar reading "U.S. Army" above a chain-suspended banner reading "In World War 1917," connected by chain to a pendant depicting a spread-winged eagle above an enameled red, white, and blue patriotic shield, flanked by laurel branches.
Manufactured by M.H. Stratton, Chattanooga, Tennessee, as marked on the reverse of the top bar. The reverse of the pendant is engraved with a timeline titled "1917 / The United States in the Great War," listing key dates and events from the American entry into World War I.
The medal shows heavy verdigris on the middle banner and chain links, with oxidation and patina throughout. The enamel on the shield retains color with minor losses.
