Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 166 - Antique Wanted Poster With Photograph For Louis Armour, Alias Alois Aumer, Wife Murderer, Perry D. Knapp, Chief Of Police, Toledo, Ohio, 1908, With Pasted Follow-Up Letter Announcing Arrest
This is a wanted poster with photograph for Louis Armour, or Aumer, wanted for the murder of his wife on Sunday, July 25, 1908. Signed by Perry D. Knapp, Chief of Police, Toledo, Ohio. The photograph was noted as taken about 15 years prior but said to be a good likeness. Physical description: age 50, height five feet six inches, about 160 pounds, rather heavy set, light complexion, light sandy hair. Armour is described as quite deaf with a habit of holding his head down when talking. His occupation is listed as horse jockey and race track follower, likely to be found around livery stables or any places where shippers of horses can be met. When he left on July 25, 1908, he was wearing a grayish suit of clothes and either a light or brown soft hat. Armour is identified as a native of Suntzing, post office Leibelfing, Neiderbayern, Germany, where his mother resided, and had been in the country about 20 years. A printed follow-up letter dated Toledo, Ohio, August 8, 1908, is pasted as a flap over the top portion of the poster. The letter, also signed by Perry D. Knapp, announces that Armour, alias Alois Aumer, was arrested the previous day near Samaria, Michigan, by officers of the department and was then in custody. Handwritten annotations include "271" and the number "39" in blue ink. Poster shows age toning, creasing, edge wear, and handling marks consistent with age and use.
