S. & Alfred Martien, No. 1214 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, 1865. Illustrated with a frontispiece engraving depicting Tom offering bread to a poor woman. Issued as an inspirational Christian tale emphasizing compassion, charity, and moral virtue. Retains the original "Sunday School Library of the First Baptist Church" bookplate numbered 230. Bound in marbled paper boards with leather spine, exhibiting wear to edges, binding separation, and toning throughout. A scarce mid-19th-century American religious tract from a noted Philadelphia publisher of devotional literature.
