Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 034 - "Eye Spy: Afield with Nature Among Flowers and Animate Things" Antique Natural History Book by William Hamilton Gibson, Illustrated by the Author, Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1897
"Eye Spy: Afield with Nature Among Flowers and Animate Things" is an antique natural history book written and illustrated by William Hamilton Gibson, published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1897. The cloth-bound cover is decorated with a color-printed vignette depicting a wreath of wasps arranged around a green ground panel bearing the title and author's name in gilt lettering. The spine is lettered in gilt with the title and author's name, with small insect vignettes as dividers. A photographic frontispiece portrait of the author faces the title page, below which appears a facsimile signature. The title page notes the book was illustrated by the author. Contents include essays on natural subjects including beetles, spiders, fungi, botanical subjects, and insects, among others, with chapter titles including "The Story of the Floundering Beetle," "Ballooning Spiders," "The Paper Wasp and His Doings," and "The Perfumed Beetles."
Condition shows wear to the spine ends and corners, with fraying to the head of the spine. Interior pages show toning consistent with age.
