Grouping of 16 antique German-language mourning memorial cards printed in Fraktur script, commemorating members of German immigrant families in the Ripley County, Indiana area. Cards are headed "Zur frommen Erinnerung" ("In pious remembrance") or "Zur Erinnerung" ("In remembrance") and record each individual's name, birth and death dates, birthplace in Germany, place of death, age at death, and a memorial verse in German.
Named individuals include Johann Diederich Früchtnicht, born in Heiligenfelde, Deutschland, 1820, died near Spades, Indiana, 1903; Anna Kath. Früchtnicht (née Kassens), born 1846, died 1902; Johann Albert Früchtnicht; Anna E. Böge, born in Stebe, Amt Witlage, Hanover, Deutschland, 1844, died 1905; Anna Maria Ahrens (née Mollenkam), born in Hanover, Deutschland, 1818, died in Franklin Township, Ripley County, Indiana, 1906; Johann Georg Peetz, son of Niklaus and Elisabetha Peetz, born 1879, died 1899; Michael Gartemann; Carrie Selfe; Anna Maria Einhaus (née Riedmann); and Heinrich Loni Einhaus. Two copies of the Anna Maria Ahrens card and two copies of the Anna E. Böge card are present. Most individuals were born in the Hanover region of Germany.
Cards show age-related toning, edge wear, soiling, and occasional creasing. Some have small losses or surface abrasion.
