Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

A grouping of 17 antique carte de visite photographs, comprising 15 standard-format C.D.V.s and two smaller gem-sized C.D.V.s. Subjects range across portraits of men, women, children, clergy, and photographs of sculpture. Among the notable examples are a seated portrait of Rt. Rev. P. T. O'Reilly in episcopal vestments with a pectoral cross and mozzetta, as identified in printed text on the mount; an unidentified clergyman wearing a pectoral cross on a chain; a photograph of the marble bust "Modesty Veiled" by Lombardi, Rome, with printed text stating the original could be seen at the Colton Dental Association Rooms, 19 Cooper Institute; a woman standing in traditional German folk dress with a tall bonnet, apron, and quilted jacket, photographed by Eugen Schmid, Marburg a/d. Lahn; and an elderly man in a button-front coat, photographed by J. P. Ehlers, Altona. Additional subjects include a young girl seated with a doll, a mother and children in matching plaid dresses, a photograph of a figural sculpture group, children posed outdoors, and individual portraits of men and women. The cards exhibit varying degrees of toning, foxing, soiling, and edge wear throughout.
