Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 111 - Grouping Of 25 World War I Era Postcards, Mostly R.P.P.C.., From George F.A. Mulcahy, Including Training Scenes At Plattsburgh And Camp Devens, Barracks Interior, Rifle Training, Map Reading, And Marching
Grouping of 25 World War I era postcards, predominantly real photo postcards (R.P.P.C.), documenting the military training of George F.A. Mulcahy. Most are addressed from George to Mrs. George Mulcahy in Boston, Massachusetts, with one card addressed to his brother Robert Mulcahy from a Joe Hamilton. Many of the real photo postcards bear verso inscriptions noting that George appears in the photographs, and several include handwritten descriptions of the scenes depicted. Most are postmarked 1917, with some unused.
The images cover various aspects of training camp life, including barracks interiors, rifle training, map reading instruction, marching, drilling, hiking, and camping. The cards appear to originate from Plattsburgh Training Camp in Plattsburgh, New York, and Camp Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts.
George F.A. Mulcahy (1892-1968) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts and educated at Boston English High School and Dartmouth College. He enlisted in the Army in 1917, received two battlefield promotions, and was decorated with the Silver Star, France's Croix de Guerre, and the Purple Heart. He later served as superintendent of Concord Reformatory (1921-1927) and retired as master of Deer Island House of Correction. He returned to active duty in the Army Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of Major. He is buried at Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop, Massachusetts.
