Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 015 - Grouping of Antique George L. Brownell Hearse Manufactory Ephemera Including Illustrated Advertising Envelopes, Printed Circular, and Letters to John Pingree of New London, New Hampshire, 1886
Grouping of antique ephemera from the George L. Brownell hearse manufactory, Cannon Street at Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, Massachusetts. The lot includes two illustrated advertising envelopes with hearse vignettes, each bearing two-cent postage stamps and addressed to John Pingree of New London, New Hampshire; a printed circular headed "From the Hearse Manufactory of George L. Brownell" with an engraved hearse illustration, advertising hearses and undertakers' wagons; a manuscript letter on Brownell letterhead dated February 1, 1886, written and signed by superintendent Giles G. Barker to John Pingree, soliciting a hearse purchase for the town of New London; and a typewritten letter on Brownell letterhead dated December 6, 1886, signed by Giles G. Barker per Shaw, following up on the same sales effort.
The envelopes show edge wear and staining. The circular and letters have fold creases consistent with mailing. The typewritten letter has overall toning.
