Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 167 - Grouping of Four Antique Board-Mounted Photographs Including Northwestern University Old College, Seminary, Heck Hall, and Lake Michigan
Grouping of four antique board-mounted photographs. Three depict Northwestern University subjects in Evanston, Illinois. Two are by Carey E. Melville, Photographer, 63 Heck Hall, Evanston, Illinois: one shows a row of institutional buildings inscribed on the verso "The 'Old' and the 'New' Seminary & Heck Hall" and dated February 21, 1899; the other depicts waves on Lake Michigan, inscribed "Lake Michigan Summer 1887" and "Off Campus N.W.U." A third photograph, on a decorative embossed mount, depicts Old College, the first building constructed at Northwestern University, shown among mature trees. The fourth photograph, by G. McDrumm, Photographer, shows a small outbuilding on an embossed-border mount, inscribed on the verso "Spring house on the Grandfather Clymer Farm near Mexico, Ind."
The Melville photographs are mounted on textured board mounts with foxing and soiling. The Old College photograph has foxing to the mount. The McDrumm photograph shows toning and fading to the image. All four photographs show age-related toning.
