Lot 258 - Pair Of Antique Ephemera Pieces Including Hood's Sarsaparilla 1899 “The American Girl” Advertising Calendar And Partial 1839 “Brown's Improved Almanack, Pocket Memorandum, And Account Book,” Boston
Pair of 19th-century paper ephemera suitable for craft or display purposes. Includes an 1899 advertising calendar top for Hood’s Sarsaparilla featuring a patriotic lithographed image titled “The American Girl,” depicting a woman before an American flag surrounded by symbols representing various U.S. military branches. Printed by C. I. Hood & Co., Lowell, Massachusetts. Reverse shows paper residue and losses consistent with previous scrapbook mounting. Hood advertising calendar measures 6-1/2" x 7-1/4".
Also included is a partial copy of “Brown’s Improved Almanack, Pocket Memorandum, and Account Book for the Year 1839,” published by Otis, Broaders, & Company, Boston. Missing cover, with interior pages containing printed biographical sketches of political figures including John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay, as well as scattered handwritten notes throughout. Almanack measures 3-1/4" x 5-3/8". Both pieces exhibit heavy wear, toning, and edge loss consistent with age and use.
