Complete two-part edition of Bunyan's Christian allegory delivered under the similitude of a dream, with copious notes by the Rev. J. Newton, Dr. Hawker, and others. Published by Isaiah Thomas, Junior of Boston and printed by E. Merriam & Co. Preface by John Newton prefixed to this genuine edition. Illustrated with woodcut engravings throughout including frontispiece depicting Christian fleeing from the City of Destruction. Bound in full leather. Contemporary ownership bookplate visible on interior page. Binding exhibits severe wear with extensive surface deterioration, cracking, and losses to leather. Interior pages show heavy water damage with distinct staining patterns, along with foxing and toning throughout. Binding is loose with pages detached or detaching. An early American edition from an important Boston publisher.
