Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 197 - "The Whole Works Of Flavius Josephus" Antique Religious And Historical Book Translated Into English By Sir Roger L'Estrange, Knight, Printed By Henry Galbraith, Dundee, 1766
Large antique leather-bound volume titled "The Whole Works of Flavius Josephus", translated into English by Sir Roger L’Estrange, Knight, and printed by Henry Galbraith, Dundee, 1766. Illustrated with a map and several copper-plate engravings. Contents include "The Life of Josephus"; "The Antiquities of the Jews" in twenty books; "Against Apion" in two parts; "The Wars of the Jews" in seven books; "The Martyrdom of the Maccabees"; and "Philo’s Embassy from the Jews of Alexandria to Caius Caligula."
Covers and spine show heavy wear and tear, with large missing sections of leather, deep splits, cut marks, and fraying corners. Portions of the spine covering are lost, and the front cover is attached in only a few spots but nearly detached—handle with care. Foxing to pages throughout. Several pages near the front and back are missing or heavily torn, and the back half of the book exhibits significant water staining. Overall fragile condition consistent with age and handling.
