Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, the system sets the current bid conservatively — just enough to keep you in the lead without revealing your full amount.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 016 - Vintage Entomology Specimen Display of Large Beetles Including Stag Beetles, Longhorn Beetles, and Metallic Scarabs from India, Madagascar, and Other Regions, in Glass-Front Wood Cabinet Attributed to Hans Luhr, Kiel, Germany, 17-3/8" L x 13" H
Vintage entomology specimen display containing a collection of large pinned beetles, predominantly stag beetles, longhorn beetles, and scarabs, with several smaller metallic green specimens. Handwritten labels reference localities including India, Assam, Madagascar, and others, with family identifications including Cerambycidae, Buprestidae, and Lucanidae noted on several labels. A large patterned longhorn beetle is mounted prominently at top center. The glass-front wood cabinet is attributed to Hans Luhr, Kiel, Germany, consistent in construction with other labeled examples from the same collection.
This display is attributed to a former museum collection, though this provenance cannot be independently verified. The specimens show varying degrees of damage consistent with long-term storage, including missing legs, antennae, and general fragility. Evidence of past pest infiltration is present; the case has been opened, examined, and superficially cleaned, and no active pest infiltration was found.
While these displays will be carefully packaged to prevent exterior damage during shipping, shifting or loosening of specimens may occur in transit. The cabinet opens easily for readjustment upon receipt.
